Edward Kenway - the Fourth Assassin

"He's a fearsome dog that feeds off trouble and turmoil... I've seen him clear the deck of a Spanish galleon like it were nothing. Fighting like a devil, dressed as a man."
―Blackbeard speaking of Edward Kenway.

Edward Kenway (unknown - 1735) was a British privateer-turned-pirate, and a member of the Assassin Order. Early in his life, he joined the British Royal Navy, and once accepted, found himself stationed in the West Indies. However, a quick end to the war and the promise of gold, glory and fame eventually seduced him into a life of piracy; it was as a pirate that Edward first encountered the Assassin Order, and became embroiled in their struggle.
Edward was also the father of Haytham Kenway and the grandfather of Ratonhnhaké:ton; through this line, he was an ancestor of Desmond Miles.
Edward Kenway is the youngest Assassin. Premiere of this part of the game will have its premiere in October this year.

Connor - the Third Assassin

"I realize now that it will take time, that the road ahead is long and shrouded in darkness. It is a road that will not always take me where I wish to go – and I doubt I will live to see it end. But I will travel down it nonetheless."
―Ratonhnhaké:ton.

Ratonhnhaké:ton (1756 - unknown), often known by the adopted name of Connor, was a Native American Assassin of theKanien'kehá:ka during the time of the American Revolutionary War. He was an ancestor of Desmond Miles.
Ratonhnhaké:ton was born to the Templar Haytham Kenway andKaniehtí:io, a Native American woman of the Kanien'kehá:ka village in Kanatahséton. In 1760, while he was still a young child, he was assaulted by members of the Templar Order seeking the spiritsanctuary his people guarded, and then watched as his village burned down and his mother died. Growing up concerned by the outside world's impact on his people, Ratonhnhaké:ton joined the Assassin Order to prevent the Templars from returning.
Finding the Templars had all but destroyed the Colonial Assassins, Ratonhnhaké:ton convinced Achilles Davenport to train him. Renamed Connor, he revitalized the Order by recruiting craftsmen to renovate the Davenport Homestead and the Assassin ship, theAquilaRobert Faulkner subsequently trained him to captain the ship, while Connor recruited six more Assassins into the Order.
In hunting the Templars, Connor aided the Sons of Liberty and protected George Washington – becoming a secret but important figure in the American Revolution – but grew disillusioned as he realized their struggle would not guarantee the same freedoms for his people. Connor was also torn by wanting to reconcile with his father, despite Achilles' warnings as to the futility of uniting the Assassin and Templar philosophies.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze - the Second Assassin

"I have lived my life as best I could, not knowing its purpose, but drawn forward like a moth to a distant moon; and here at last, I discover a strange truth. That I am only a conduit, for a message that eludes my understanding."
―Ezio Auditore da Firenze on his role as "the Prophet."

Ezio Auditore da Firenze (1459 – 1524) was a Florentinenobleman during the Renaissance, and, unbeknownst to most historians and philosophers, the Mentor of the Italian Brotherhoodof Assassins, a title which he held from 1503 to 1512. He was also an ancestor to Desmond Miles and Clay Kaczmarek.
A member of the House of Auditore, Ezio remained unaware of his Assassin heritage until the age of 17, when he witnessed the hanging of his father and two brothers, Federico and Petruccio. Forced to flee his birthplace with his remaining family members - his mother and sister - Ezio took refuge in the Tuscan town ofMonteriggioni, at the Villa Auditore.
After learning of his heritage from his uncle, Mario Auditore, Ezio began his Assassin training and set about on his quest for vengeance against the Templar Order, and their Grand Master,Rodrigo Borgia, who had ordered the execution of his kin.
During his travels, Ezio managed to not only unite the pages of theCodex, written by Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, Mentor of the Levantine Assassins, but also to save the cities of Florence, Venice, andRome from Templar rule.
He ensured the future travels of Christoffa Corombo to the "New World", liberated Rome from Borgia rule, and prevented the rise to power of Ercole Massimo's Cult of Hermes, helping spread the Renaissance and Assassin ideals of independence and free will throughout Italy.
In the years that followed, Ezio began a quest to rediscover the lost history of the Order. Traveling to the aged fortress of Masyaf in order to learn more of the Assassins before him, he discovered it overrun with Templars and made his way to the city ofConstantinople to uncover the location of the Masyaf keys which, as he discovered, would unlock the fortress's fabled hidden librarywhen brought together.
A decade later, Ezio was retired and residing in a Tuscan villa with his wife, Sofia Sartor, and his two children; Flavia and Marcello. Some time after helping teach the Chinese Assassin Shao Jun the ways of the Order, Ezio died of a heart attack at the age of 65, during a visit to Florence with his wife and daughter.

Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad - the First Assassin

"When I was very young, I was foolish enough to believe that our Creed would bring an end to all these conflicts. If only I had possessed the humility to say to myself, I have seen enough for one life, I've done my part. Then again, there is no greater glory than fighting to find the truth."
―Altaïr to his son Darim during the 1257 Mongol attack on Masyaf.

Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad (1165 – 1257) was a Syrian-born member of the Levantine Brotherhood of Assassins, and served as theirMentor from 1191 until his death in 1257. During his tenure as Mentor, Altaïr made several discoveries and inventions that greatly helped the Order's progression, and his leadership saw to the spread of the Assassins' influence in the Old World. He was an ancestor to Desmond Miles.
Raised to be an Assassin from birth, Altaïr obtained the rank of Master Assassin by the age of 24. However, following his failure to obtain an Apple of Eden from Robert de Sable in early 1191, and subsequently allowing the Templars to attack the city of Masyaf – headquarters to the Order of Assassins – he was demoted to the rank of novice and sent on a quest for redemption.
Tasked with the deaths of nine individuals, who, unbeknown to him, made up the ranks of the Templar Order in the Holy Land, Altaïr began a quest to change his ways and liberate the Kingdom from the corruption of the nine. During his quest however, Altaïr learned of a plot far more sinister than originally believed. Completing his mission to kill the nine targets, and cleansing the Order of its treacherous leader Al Mualim, Altaïr rose to the rank of Mentor, taking the Assassins into a new, more secretive direction.
With the Apple in hand, Altaïr changed the ways his Order lived their lives; writing the details in his fabled Codex for later generations of the Order to read. Altaïr's vision of the Assassin Order was for them to be spread across the world, living among the people, to which he began establishing many more Assassins Guilds during his tenure as Mentor. Throughout his travels, Altaïr strengthened his Order, stopping various Templar plots over the years as well as halting the inexorable march of Genghis Khan.

Desmond Miles - takes the role of their ancestors.

"In a few short months my life changed forever. I know my easiest days are behind me, but I don't want them back – not now. My name is Desmond Miles, and I am an Assassin. I am an Assassin."
―Desmond reflecting on his past, in the Black Room

Desmond Miles (1987 – 2012) was a member of the Assassin Order and a descendant of numerous familial lines that had sworn an allegiance to the Assassins; including individuals such asAquilusAltaïr Ibn-La'AhadEzio Auditore da Firenze andRatonhnhaké:ton.
By age 16, Desmond became tired of living in hiding and aspired to pursue his own dreams. Using the minimal training of Assassin skills he had obtained from his father, William Miles, Desmond fled from the Assassin compound he had grown up in and managed to travel from South Dakota to New York City, where he found employment as a bartender in the Bad Weather nightclub.
In September 2012, Desmond was kidnapped and incarcerated atAbstergo Industries, a Templar organization, and forced into a machine called the Animus to relive the genetic memories of his ancestor, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad. It was Abstergo's aim to acquire a map that detailed many "Pieces of Eden" spread across the Earth, which Desmond was reluctantly successful in doing. Following this, he managed to escape Abstergo with the help of Lucy Stillman, an undercover Assassin, and joined an Assassin cell inItaly, which consisted of herself, Shaun Hastings and Rebecca Crane. Utilizing an upgraded Animus of Rebecca's construction, Desmond relived the memories of Ezio Auditore da Firenze, in order to improve upon his newly obtained skills.
Eventually, with the knowledge gained from Ezio's memories, Desmond and his Assassin teammates obtained the location ofEzio's Apple of Eden, which was located underneath theColosseum. Though successful in obtaining the artifact, Desmond's body was taken over by Juno, a member of the First Civilization, and was made to stab Lucy. As a result of the shock, Desmond fell into a coma, and was placed in the Black Room, the safe mode of the Animus, in an attempt to stabilize his condition. With help from the virtual construct of Clay Kaczmarek, "Subject 16" of Abstergo's Animus Project, Desmond was able to regain consciousness, and found himself located in the state of New York once more, this time with Rebecca, Shaun, and his father, William.
